Maine Bankruptcy Attorney
Philosophy
At our office, we firmly believe that the bankruptcy laws were enacted to provide a safety valve for individuals and businesses facing severe financial challenges. We won’t ever make a judgment about how or why you came to file for bankruptcy. Instead, we will make certain you fully understand all your rights and options, and that you get all the benefits the bankruptcy laws have to offer. The bankruptcy laws are there to help you, and so are we.
Practice
We handle all types of business and consumer bankruptcies. We carefully explain the advantages and disadvantages of different filing options so that you can make an informed decision that is in your best interest. We walk you through the bankruptcy process and determine which debt relief option is best for your situation. Compassion and integrity are the cornerstones of our practice.
Bankruptcy Services
Personal Bankruptcy
If you face overwhelming debt and don’t foresee any change in your situation that will allow you to recover financially, a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing can help you get a fresh start. The laws have changed, though, making it more difficult to qualify to permanently discharge debts under Chapter 7. You want an experienced and knowledgeable attorney to help you understand your rights and options.
Small Business Bankruptcy
If your small business is facing financial challenges and you are finding it difficult to keep your creditors at bay, you may be uncertain of your options. A Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing will allow you to keep your business going, but will put an end to the continual calls and letters, and will prevent your creditors from taking legal action against you. You want an experienced lawyer to help you through the process, someone who knows the law and has helped others in circumstances just like yours.
Debt Relief Service
If you are struggling to meet your financial obligations, a Chapter 13 bankruptcy can put a stop to the incessant phone calls and letters from creditors, but also has benefits not available in Chapter 7. You want an experienced lawyer to take you through the process, so that you get all the benefits the federal bankruptcy laws offer.
Our Attorney
Perry O'Brian
Perry O’Brian is a Bangor, Maine native. He attended John Bapst High School, the University of Maine at Orono, and Maine Law School in Portland. He graduated from law school in 1984. He returned to Bangor, Maine to set up his practice. In the early years, Mr. O’Brian handled bankruptcies, social security disability cases, criminal cases, and family law matters.
As time went on, bankruptcy cases became the focus of his practice until they made up a majority of his caseload. When Congress changed the bankruptcy laws in 2005, Mr. O’Brian made the decision to focus exclusively on bankruptcy law. Given the complexities of the new laws, he decided that clients needed an attorney well-versed in the new laws. Over the past 36 years, he helped hundreds of clients get a fresh start through bankruptcy.
